Taylor Guitars Team Up With Original Grain for Watches, Featuring Urban Ironbark Wood

Legendary high-end guitar brand Taylor have now teamed up with Original Grain Watches for a line of stylish wrist pieces. And, what’s more, this now expanded collaboration comes with the incorporation of Taylor’s Urban Ironbark tonewood which they began using in September 2022.

To those who may not know, Urban Ironbark is Taylor’s eco-friendly project. In collaboration with West Coast Arborists, Inc., Taylor sources ironbark eucalyptus from urban areas in Southern California. These trees have reached the end of their life cycle and are posing a safety hazard. So it’s not just about fancy tonewoods and stylish watches but also about eco-friendly sourcing of materials.

Certain Taylor models, like the 514ce, feature Urban Ironback back and sides (and thus the name) giving these guitars “piano-like fidelity” in tone. So where the rosewood usually goes, you’ll have this new eco-friendly solution.

And now, you can have this wood on your wrist as well. Although, obviously, you won’t be making any music with a watch (unless you find a proper way to do so), Urban Ironbark will still make for a great aesthetic addition to your watch.

The two companies created two new watches now. These are Taylor Urban Ironbark Chrono 44mm and Taylor Urban Ironbark Barrel 42mm. In their own unique ways, both models feature the wood in question. And, in addition to that, they also come with an engraving service which adds to the base price.

While we’re at it, the price of Taylor Urban Ironbark Chrono 44mm is $549. Meanwhile, Urban Ironbark Barrel 42mm is listed as $329. What’s also worth noting is that the warranty for these watches is one year.

However, things go beyond just your usual use of eco-friendly tonewood. For each of these Urban Ironbark watches sold, one tree will be planted. Additionally, 10 percent of the earnings from these watches go to two charities, Tree San Diego and Guitars for Vets.
